NETGEAR® Delivers First Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet Switches with Four 10-Gigabit Bays

[Tisková zpráva] SANTA CLARA, Calif. – April 25, 2006 – NETGEAR, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTGR), a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today announced the expansion of its family of ProSafe™ Gigabit Layer 3 managed switches with the launch of its flagship product – the world’s first 24 and 48 port Gigabit Layer 3 Stackable switches with four high-speed module bays – providing the most flexibility of any product in its class.

The four high-speed module bays deliver the flexibility by creating a stack that uses two bays per switch for a 48Gbps backplane and uses the remaining bays for trunked 10Gigabit links to connect back to the core. The new ProSafe 24 and 48 Port Gigabit Layer 3 Stackable Switches with Four 10-Gigabit Slots (GSM7328S and GSM7352S) offer scalable, enterprise-class functionality that brings a rich, new feature set and high availability to the network edge, wiring closets, branch offices, and data centers.

“The convergence of voice, video, and data has increased bandwidth pressure on small and medium-sized business networks, requiring a scalable and future-proof solution with massive bandwidth capabilities,” stated Peter Newton, senior product line manager at NETGEAR. “With the new ProSafe GSM7328S and GSM7352S Gigabit Stackable Switches, NETGEAR has taken enterprise-level technology and delivered it to the SMB market with the right combination of performance, ease of use, and affordability. We had received requests for stackable Gigabit switches with high-speed backplanes and for switches that had 10-Gigabit Ethernet connections to the core. We saw a way to combine these needs to create a flexible and future-proof product family that would deliver both capabilities.”

The ProSafe 24 and 48 Port Gigabit L3 Managed Stackable Switches with Four 10 Gigabit Slots (GSM7328S and GSM7352S) provide both standards based Layer 2 and Layer 3 managed switching functionality. The four dual purpose, hot-swappable high-speed module bays offer modular expansion for 10-Gigabit Ethernet with the ProSafe AX741 10-Gigabit Ethernet XFP Adapter Module or 24 Gigabit Stacking connectivity with the ProSafe AX742 Stacking Kit. Using one stacking kit per switch, users can create a 384 port Gigabit Ethernet stack with a 48 Gbps backplane, up to 16 trunkable 10G ports, all easily managed from a single IP address. The AX741 10-Gigabit Ethernet XFP Adapter Module supports IEEE 802.3ae standard XFP optics modules such as the AXM751 10GBASE-SR “Short Reach” module or the AXM752 10GBASE-LR “Long Reach” module. To support longer-reach Gigabit Ethernet requirements, four (GSM7328S) or eight (GSM7352S) hot-swappable SFP Gigabit interfaces provide fiber connectivity through NETGEAR’s optional GBIC modules, which include the ProSafe AGM731F 1000BASE-SX SFP GBIC, ProSafe AGM732F 1000BASE-LX SFP GBIC, and ProSafe AGM733 1000BASE-ZX SFP GBIC.

The non-blocking GSM7328S and GSM7352S feature dynamic wire-speed Layer 3 switching to ensure fast and reliable routing between VLANs and network segments. Advanced Quality of Service, bandwidth provisioning, and access control features support the growing demands of applications such as Storage Area Networks, IP telephony, and high-bandwidth video streaming. With strong support for security, the GSM7328S and GSM7352S feature set includes IEEE 802.1× port-based authentication, access control lists, Secure Socket Layers (SSLv3) for the intuitive browser-based GUI, and Secured Shell (SSH) for the industry-standard command-line interface (CLI).

The GSM7328S and GSM7352S are backed by a limited lifetime warranty and 24/7 technical support. Optional NETGEAR ProSupport service offerings include advanced technical support (OnCall 24×7); next business day hardware replacement (XPressHW); and NETGEAR’s advanced support packages, ProSupport OnSite 24×7 and OnSite 9×5, which provide complete same- or next-day network support. The GSM7328S and GSM7352S will be available in early May via leading direct marketers, e-commerce sites, and value-added resellers at list prices of $2,790 and $4,599 respectively. The AX741 and AX742 will be also be available at list prices of $557 each. The AXM751 and AXM752 modules will be available in late May at list prices of $2,790 and $3,765 respectively.
